Technology fever first broke out in Málaga 18 months ago when Google announced the launch of its cybersecurity centre of excellence in the city. Since then, it has become apparent that the attraction to Malaga as a tech centre has been more than just a whim.

When we look at the past year and a half it is clear that other companies have hooked on to the idea of Malaga being the ‘Spanish Silicon Valley’.

Shortly after Google announced its intention to launch in the city, Dekra, a German multinational company announced that it would be expanding in the Spanish city and would be employing over 100 tech professionals. This was followed by TDK and Argentinian multinational Globant who announced that their artificial intelligence innovation centre was to open in the Spanish city.

Vodafone also selected Malaga from 7 European candidates for its European R&D centre which plans to employ 600 professionals.

Most recently, Banco Santander, GP Bullhound and Grupo Babel have all shown interest in Malaga for their future expansion. Banco Santander’s investment banking division and GP Bullhound both plan to open a technological support branch in the city, and Grupo Babel intends to launch a cyberscurity centre in the next few years.

These announcements demonstrate the growing popularity and potential of Malaga and the surrounding area for employment opportunities.
